STAR Community Services is recruiting volunteers to provide companionship to seniors in their homes in Ipswich & Redlands regions.
The Companionship Support Program aims to offer healthy social interaction to seniors, boost their mental and physical well-being, and assist them in continuing to live independently.
This is an excellent role for people who are good communicators and have a warm and friendly persona.
STAR is seeking volunteers who can spend one one-on-one time with clients to:
- have a cuppa and a chat
- read a book
- help with craft activities and hobbies such as gardening, knitting, sewing
- accompany our client on social visits, to the movies, or to the library, cooking classes, yoga etc, hairdressing or other appointments
- spend quality, one-on-one time with a client.
Enjoy the satisfaction of supporting an elder to remain independent with a little help from you. STAR offers volunteers:
- Flexible hours.
- Full training and support provided
- ATO rate of reimbursement for the use of your vehicle (0.85c per kilometre)
- Daily non-taxable reimbursement for out-of-pocket expenses - $15 for ½ day (4 hours) or $30 or a full day (between 7-8 hrs)

All positions within STAR Community Services are required to obtain an NDIS Workers' Screening Check (which includes a National Police Check). STAR Community Services will assist successful applicants with this.
Other requirements include:
- A sense of humour and patience
- Warm and friendly demeanour
- Current flu vaccination
- Current First aid and CPR qualifications (STAR can assist with this)
- Current Driver's Licence
- Own or have access to a vehicle under 10 years of age with suitable access for seniors e.g. some 4WDs are not appropriate (a STAR fleet vehicle may be available if you are unable to access a vehicle)
- Comprehensive and compulsory third-party insurance.
