Volunteer as a Pyjama Angel!
The Pyjama Foundation is seeking dedicated volunteer mentors, known as Pyjama Angels, to provide support and guidance in the Redlands (and across Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria).
Volunteer on the days and times you are available.
This is a flexible role which can be fitted around Pyjama Angels' other commitments. The Pyjama Foundation can match you with clients who are available when you are. Location and any other preferences you may have are also taken into account.
As a Pyjama Angel, you'll have the opportunity to visit a young person in foster care for just one hour each week, offering valuable assistance in learning, life skills, and confidence-building.
You do not need to be an expert! The Pyjama Foundation are there to support you every step of the way. They provide training, ongoing check-ins, and guidance throughout your placement, ensuring you have the resources and assistance to support the young person effectively.
Your one-on-one time with a young person has a profound impact on their life and the Foster Carers in your community. Over time, you'll become a trusted mentor, providing constant encouragement and helping to create a brighter future for them.
Pyjama Angels need the following skills and attributes:
- ability to listen to your young person and foster their interests in a fun way
- have a patient and supportive nature with a non-judgemental attitude
- be flexible, reliable and resilient
- have a basic understanding of the English language, literacy and numeracy
Successful applicants will need:
- to be over 18 years of age
- to obtain a Blue Card - which The Pyjama Foundation will assist you with
- be able to commit to the role for a minimum of 12 months
Successful volunteers will participate in a full training day (usually on a Saturday or Sunday between 9 am to 5 pm).
