Meaning of some commonly used technical terms in aged care

Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT)

A team of health professionals that determines eligibility for government-subsidised residential aged care, home care packages, and transition care. If you need some help at home or are considering moving into an aged care home, you may first need a free assessment by an ACAT. A member of an ACAT will talk to you about your current situation and work out if you are eligible to receive government subsidised aged care services.

Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)

An Australian Government-funded aged care program which provides entry-level support services.

Home Care Packages Program (HCP)

An Australian Government-funded aged care program which provides support and care services to older people in their homes. There are four levels of care to support those with basic (Level 1), low (Level 2), intermediate (Level 3), and high (Level 4) care needs.

Regional Assessment Service (RAS)

If you need low-level support to stay independent in your home, My Aged Care may recommend a home support assessment with a RAS assessor. This type of support is provided through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme.
